v0.94
SAD GOD » Devlog
I originally set myself a target of 12 unique shots for the Pico-8 version of SAD GOD. On paper I had 20 ideas.
There are now 48 types of shot.
- ME2 creates a mini version of yourself that copies your moves. I decided against it creating its own bullets as it's already very powerful.
- ARC creates a sword slash like in Strider or Hollow Knight. I'm surprised I hadn't thought of this sooner, though it did require a number of buffs in development to make it worth replacing SAD.
- JOY has had its controls inverted. What made JOY so hard to move was the need to move forwards to steer it forwards, sending you over a ledge or into an enemy. Now you can hop back and point it ahead of you with ease. This small change turns the shot from barely usable to over-powered, pushing it far up the ranks. I may need to nerf it's duration / speed, but the new controls are here to stay.
- Jelly blocks no longer split in two. I managed to soft-lock a new chunk, forcing me to re-think this mechanic. They will now slide randomly left or right, dying if unable to or if hit whilst sliding.
- Shots now die on contact with the creeping dark, and vanish when off camera. There are enough mechanics in the game to make triggering events off-screen rather annoying.
As usual, more level chunks and bug fixes are in this update.
