After overhaulling shot altars, I looked at the level chunk system.
Chunks are like a deck of cards, and as levels go up we draw further down the deck. After a percentage of cards are drawn the deck is reset.
This can result in chunks appearing across multiple levels. Which I think is fine, except when it's a boss. Now bosses draw from a new type of deck. Cards are no longer drawn, but banned until all picks in the range for that level are gone. Then it clears all but the previous pick. No more repeat boss fights across levels, or in the same level.
There were other issues in the system that were limiting the pool of available chunks. These have been addressed.
Also:
- Coins will now change from coins to hearts and vice versa when you level up, making the decision to collect easier to read.
- Drop spikes were not dropping from crumble walls, this has been fixed.
- GON is now banned until +Normal or +Hardcore is unlocked. This weapon keeps the game honest, but it's clearly a cheat code. Something that should be reserved until the basics are mastered.
- Many bridge chunks (these add space between other chunks) have been added.
As well as adding more chunks, my next focus is adding some more boss types. There needs to be at least a couple more to allow unique multi-bosses and better level variance. Look forwards to an even longer version number.
